The New England Patriots are cutting ties with three-time Super Bowl champion winning punter Ryan Allen.
The Patriots are apparently choosing to go with Jake Bailey, the rookie-punter they drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The news was first reported by the Boston Globe's Jim McBride. Allen, 29, had one of his best performances of his career in Super Bowl LIII, a game in which he launched five punts for 43 yards-per-punt while trapping the Los Angeles Rams inside their 20-yard line on three occasions. Allen joined the team in 2013 as an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana Tech. Allen beat out Zoltan Mesko and spent the next six seasons with the Patriots After the 2018 season, Allen was allowed to test free agency before ultimately re-signing with the Patriots. Bailey comes at a discount for the Patriots, and he's signed for the next four seasons, compared with Allen, who would have been a free agent at the end of the 2019 season.
